Every October since 1997 in Chianti country (Tuscany), a wonderful bike ‘race’ is held using old bikes on dirt tracks, inspiring thoughts of times gone by and perhaps a slightly different pace to life.  We visited Radda in Chianti this September; I drove (unfortunately) along some of the route and bought the cycling shirt etc., but my real ambition is to one day ride it.  For more information, check out the website, but to understand the essence, watch the video.  Love it.
